Frequently Asked Questions
What machinery does Performant Advanced Manufacturing have onsite?
At our workshop, we have various CNC mills, lasers, and printers that enable us to move from computer designs to great products quickly and efficiently.
What are the average time frames for completing various products?
For simpler projects, we can complete items in days. Our typical turn around time for most projects is 2-3 weeks dependent on complexity and materials.
What is a vector file?
A vector file is an image that is built by mathematical formulas that establish points on a grid. The biggest advantage of a vector file over what we call a raster file, like .JPG, .PNG, is the ability to infinitely adjust the size without losing resolution.
If you need to have a pattern cut or engraved in 2D, whether it’d be using a CNC, laser, or vinyl cutter, you will need to provide us with a workable vector file, which includes .SVG, .DXF, or .AI.
If you don’t have a vector file and only have a .JPG or .PNG, that is okay. We can produce a vector file from a raster file, but please note that this design work will be charged to you upfront, in addition to any fabrication work.
What files do I need to make a 3D part?
If you are looking to make a 3D part, whether it’d be with a 3D printer or a CNC mill, you will need to provide us with a STEP file. A STEP file contains the complete 3D model rather than just the 3D geometry, which enables us to make changes to it if needed. We use SolidWorks as our CAD software, a file format in this (.sdlpt....) is preferred if you have native SolidWorks files.
If you don’t have a STEP file, it probably means you don’t have a CAD model at all. You will need a CAD model if you want to make a 3D part. We can help you design a CAD file, but please note that this design work will be charged to you upfront, in addition to any fabrication work.
What if I don’t have the right files to make my parts?
You won’t be able to make your desired parts or signs if you don’t have the appropriate files. We have mechanical engineers and designers who can help you generate the files you need. Please note that any design work will be charged to you upfront, in addition to any fabrication work.
Sometimes, customers provide us with the right file format, but those files contain flaws, making them unusable. If that’s the case with your files, we will let you know. You can then decide to either “clean” them and send them back to us or have us "clean” them for you. This would be categorized as design work and will be charged to you upfront, in addition to any fabrication work.
